Is Spain now the leading European pork exporter to non-EU markets? In 2015 Germany and Spain both overtook Denmark, traditionally the leading exporter of EU pork outside the European Union, with export volumes to non-EU markets of over 300,000t each.
With a big increase in production and Spain having a higher % of production going outside the EU than Germany (30% v 20%) it is quite possible Spain will be the clear number one when data for recent months is available.
On a recent trip to Spain visiting our pork suppliers there, we noticed that the mood among producers was that export markets are buoyant and increasing in importance all the time.
